Insurance to avoid financial problems in case of a critical illness

Caroline, my financial security advisor, is the one who recommended that I get critical illness insurance. I really trust her, so I followed her advice. She took the time to help me set up the right kind of plan. For me, it was very important that my premiums would be fully refunded at maturity if I stayed healthy. That fit with my retirement plan and ensured that I wouldn’t lose my money.

Frankly, I never thought I’d need it. We all think bad stuff won’t happen to us… But a few years later, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I can’t tell you how grateful I was for Caroline’s help and advice... Like a lot of other diseases, my cancer was covered by my insurance, and that was such a relief!

Caroline took care of the details in filing the claim with the insurance company. That may seem like no big deal, but when something like this happens to you, trust me - it’s incredibly helpful! It gave me one less thing to worry about and allowed me to focus all my energy on getting well.

A few weeks later, I received a cheque for $125,000, tax free. That really helped. I have a family, and my illness could have spelled financial disaster. The cheque meant I didn’t have to worry about money.

With the support of my family and friends, I took the time I needed to get back on my feet, and now I’m enjoying life to the fullest! In fact, my wife and I are planning a trip to Europe – something we’ve always dreamed of! If not for Caroline’s excellent advice, we’d still be looking for a way to get out of the hole.

People generally don’t like to contemplate the worst, which is probably a good thing, but sometimes you just have to consider those  worst-case scenarios. I’m really glad I did, and that I had Caroline to guide me through the process!
